DFA100 – Dynamic Foam Analyzers
Precision systems for the analysis of all aspects of liquid foam
The DFA100 Series offers a complete solution for characterizing the behavior of liquid foams across multiple dimensions. Whether analyzing foam formation, bubble structure, or liquid drainage, each model in the series delivers targeted performance. The DFA100 covers all essential aspects of foam analysis, the DFA100FSM specializes in time-resolved bubble size evaluation, and the DFA100LCM focuses on measuring liquid content and drainage dynamics. These high-end instruments are designed for precision, flexibility, and adaptability in both research and quality control settings — instruments for the analysis of all aspects of liquid foam.
DFA100
The universal instrument for all aspects of liquid foam
Many questions about foam, one universal approach: The DFA100 Dynamic Foam Analyzer measures the foamability of liquids and the stability of quickly decaying or long-lasting foam based on reproducible foaming and height detection. With optional modules operating in parallel, it also measures the liquid content or analyzes the foam structure with regard to bubble size and distribution. The DFA100 supports you in optimizing foam-forming products or helps you to avoid unwanted foam formation.
Applications
☑️ Firefighting foams
☑️ Flotation as a method for separating solids
☑️ Foam prevention for paints and varnishes, process and waste water, or cooling lubricants
☑️ Foam prevention in amine gas treating (“gas sweetening“) processes
☑️ Foam-inhibiting and foam-reducing agents (anti-foaming agents / defoamers)
☑️ Foams for washing and cleaning
☑️ Foams in food and personal care products
☑️ Surfactant development

Measuring Methods
☑️ Foamability and foam stability using the optically detected height of foam created reproducibly
☑️ Foam formation behavior of heavily foaming liquids using stirring cycles
☑️ Optically detected foam bubble sizes and their statistical distribution
☑️ Moisture and drainage behavior of foam using its electrical conductivity
☑️ Carrying out a measurement up to 20 consecutive times and displaying the results together
Measuring Results
☑️ Decay curves: total height and volume as well as foam and liquid height and volume at each measured point in time
☑️ Head Retention Value (HRV)
☑️ Maximum foam volume and liquid volume in foam at maximum
☑️ Optional results for liquid content and foam structure
☑️ Time values for the reduction of liquid volume in foam and foam volume to 75% and 50% (foam half-life)
DFA100FSM
Time-dependent analysis of bubble size in liquid foams
The FSM Foam Structure Module for the DFA100 captures the bubble size and size distribution of foam using intelligent video image analysis. The results help you to produce foam with the shape you want it to have. They also show the decay of long-lasting foam, long before it actually collapses, thus supporting you in optimizing foam stability.

DFA100LCM
Analyzing liquid content and drainage of foam
The LCM Liquid Content Module for the DFA100 measures the moisture of foams with respect to time on different foam height levels. The results are obtained by detecting the foam’s conductivity as a proven method. They provide you with knowledge about a foam’s stability and help you optimize products where moisture plays a key role, such as washing foams.
