CB Series Scientific Cameras for Imaging

Highspeed, low noise, global shutter “snapshot” camera for high-end low light visible applications.

The CB Series, developed by First Light Imaging—now part of Oxford InstrumentsAndor—comprises three high-performance scientific CMOS cameras: CB1, CB2, and CB1 UV. Each model features a global shutter, low noise, and high-speed readout, making them well-suited for high-end, low-light imaging in the visible spectrum

The CB1 provides broad spectral sensitivity from 200 to 1000 nm, supporting a wide range of scientific applications. The CB2 offers enhanced dynamic range and linearity, tailored for applications requiring precise signal quantification. The CB1 UV is specifically optimized for ultraviolet sensitivity, enabling detection down to 200 nm. The CB Series delivers a versatile and robust imaging platform for advanced research and industrial environments.

CB1

Ultra-high performance scientific CMOS camera specifically designed for demanding imaging applications in the visible range (400 nm – 1000 nm).

The CB1  was developed to meet the needs of scientists requiring a flexible, high-speed, low noise, global shutter “snapshot” camera for high-end low light visible applications. Integrating the latest generation of Sony CMOS Pregius™ sensors, the CB1 delivers high frame rates and high sensitivity without compromise.

The camera’s architecture supports three different Sony CMOS Pregius™ sensor options, allowing customization for the best balance of pixel size, resolution, and frame rate:

➡️ CB1 0.5 MP: 812×612 px, 9 μm, 1594 fps
➡️ CB1 1.7 MP: 1608×1104 px, 9 μm, 662 fps
➡️ CB1 7.1 MP: 3208×2200 px, 4.5 μm, 207 fps

All models offer very low readout noise and a global shutter architecture for ultra-low light imaging. Data transfer is handled via CXP 2.0 or GigE interfaces, ensuring low latency, high real-time capability, and GigE Vision compliance.

➡️ 0.5, 1.7 or 7.1 MegaPixel variants
➡️ Very low noise: 1.38 e- read noise
➡️ 4.5 or 9 μm pixel pitch
➡️ Global Shutter
➡️ Up to 1594 fps (8 bits) | 941 fps (12 bits)
➡️ High Dynamic Range (14 bits)

CB1 UV

Ultra-high performance scientific CMOS camera specifically designed for demanding imaging applications in the UV and visible range (200 nm – 1000 nm).

CB1 UV is an industrial-grade Ultraviolet-optimized scientific camera which opens new possibilities for high-speed CMOS imaging. The camera offers a spectral sensitivity from 200 to 1000 nm.

Equipped with a high-performance monochrome CMOS global shutter sensor with a very high resolution of 8.1MP (2848 x 2848 pixels, 2.74 μm pitch), the camera is optimized for the 200-400 nm wavelength range with more than 50% quantum efficiency at 300 nm, and 30% at 220 nm.

CB1 is a GigE Vision camera and GenICam compatible.

➡️ 2848 x 2848 pixels | 8.13 MP sCMOS
➡️ 2.74 μm pixel pitch
➡️ 1.31 e- MED read noise
➡️ 170 fps (8 bits) | 121 fps (12 bits)
➡️ UV-optimized for 200 – 400 nm
➡️ Global shutter

CB2

Ultra-high performance scientific camera combining high sensitivity, high speed, and a global shutter over a large field of view.

The CB2 is an ultra-high performance scientific camera platform that combines high sensitivity, high speed, and a global shutter over a large field of view. The CB2 24B model features a 24.5 Megapixel back-illuminated sensor with flexible 2×2 pixel binning, allowing for enhanced optical adaptability without increasing read noise. Designed for long exposure applications like luminescence and astronomy, it offers TE cooling to -20°C, reducing dark current to an ultra-low 0.0015 e-/p/s, making it a strong alternative to deep-cooled CCD cameras. It is also qualified for operation down to -40°C ambient, suitable for harsh environments.

The CB2 24B supports high-speed imaging with up to 74 fps at full resolution (12-bit), boosted to 283 fps with binning, ideal for dynamic applications such as ion flux microscopy, adaptive optics, and quantum atom dynamics. Data transfer is handled via CoaXPress 2.0 or GigE interfaces, ensuring low latency and real-time performance. The camera is GigE Vision and GenICam compatible, with a native C-mount and optional TFL mount for longer optical setups.

➡️ 5328 x 4608 pixels | 24.5 MP back-illuminated sCMOS
➡️ 2.74 µm pixel pitch | 5.48 µm with 2×2 on-chip binning
➡️ Very low noise: 1.3 e- RMS
➡️ Ultra low dark: 0.0015 e-/p/s
➡️ 106 fps (8 bits) | 74 fps (12 bits) | 37 fps (16 bits HDR)
