Description

Gram Crystal Violet (500ml) is a fundamental dye in microbiology, primarily used for Gram staining. It is a triarylmethane dye that binds to bacterial cell walls, allowing differentiation between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

During the Gram staining process, Crystal Violet penetrates bacterial cells and forms a complex with iodine (using Gram Iodine solution). Gram-positive bacteria, due to their thicker peptidoglycan layer, retain the dye and remain purple after alcohol washing. In contrast, Gram-negative bacteria lose the stain and take up a counterstain (such as safranin), appearing pink.

Gram Crystal Violet is essential in clinical and research laboratories for the rapid and reliable identification of bacterial infections, aiding in diagnosis and treatment decisions. Besides Gram staining, it can also be used in other microbiological and histological applications.
