OCAM2 EMCCD Cameras for Imaging

High-speed, low-noise visible imaging with ultra-low latency and subelectron sensitivity

OCAM2K and OCAM2S are high-speed, low-noise EMCCD cameras, capable of operating at 2067 fps (up to 3700 fps with binning) with sub-electron readout noise. They cover the 400 nm to 900 nm spectral range with a typical 95% peak QE. Both models offer low latency, with just 43 μs between exposure and first pixel availability.

To achieve this performance, OCAM2K integrates the Teledyne E2V CCD220 sensor, a Peltier-cooled 240 x 240 pixel frame-transfer 8-output back-illuminated sensor. Whereas, OCAM2S features an integrated electronic shutter and uses the Teledyne E2V CCD219 Peltier-cooled 240 x 240 pixel 8 output split frame transfer CCD.

The Embedded Electronic Shutter in OCAM2S is able to deliver an arbitrary number of integration pulses that can be shorter than 1 μs with a precision better than 50 ns.

To minimize smearing, the CCD220 and CCD219 high speed metal buttressed clock lines are driven by OCAM2K and OCAM2S at a speed as high as 7 Mlines/s transferring each frame in the store section in only 12 microseconds. OCAM2K and OCAM2S also offer an extremely low latency: 43 μs between exposure and first pixel availability.

Developed by astronomers for astronomers for visible imaging, with up to 95% quantum efficiency over a wide spectrum (from 400 to 900 nm), the EMCCD cameras OCAM2K and OCAM2S are the fastest visible cameras with subelectron read out noise. For wavefront sensing applications, OCAM2K and OCAM2S can be equipped with a 20 x 20 subapertures microlens array (customizable on request).

Key features include:

OCAM2K

High Speed, Ultra-sensitive: Ideal for Adaptive Optics

OCAM²K is a high-speed, low-noise EMCCD camera capable of running at up to 2067 fps (or 3700 fps with binning) with sub-electron readout noise. It integrates the Teledyne E2V CCD220 sensor, a Peltier-cooled 240 x 240 pixel, frame-transfer, 8-output, back-illuminated sensor.

The camera features metal buttressed clock lines that enable ultra-fast frame transfer in just 12 microseconds, minimizing smearing. With an extremely low latency of 43 μs between exposure and pixel availability, OCAM²K is designed for visible imaging in astronomy, offering up to 95% quantum efficiency across the 400 to 900 nm range. It can be equipped with a 20 x 20 sub-aperture microlens array for wavefront sensing applications, customizable upon request.

➡️ Up to 2067 FPS full frame
➡️ 240 x 240 format, 24 µm pixel
➡️ BSI deep depletion NIR-enhanced QE
➡️ Ultra low latency 43 µs

OCAM2S

High Speed, Ultra-sensitive, Fast Electronic Shutter

The OCAM²S is a high-speed, ultra-low noise EMCCD camera offering up to 2067 fps (or 3700 fps with binning). Unlike the OCAM²K, it features an integrated electronic shutter for precise control of integration pulses shorter than 1 µs with timing accuracy better than 50 ns.

Built on the Teledyne E2V CCD219 sensor (240 x 240 pixels, split frame transfer), it uses high-speed clock lines for rapid frame transfer in 12 microseconds and low latency of 43 µs. With up to 95% quantum efficiency across 400–900 nm, OCAM²S is ideal for astronomy and wavefront sensing, supporting a customizable 20 x 20 microlens array. Its shutter and pulse control set it apart from the shutter-free OCAM²K, enabling precise timing and reduced smearing.

➡️ Electronic Shutter
➡️ 240 x 240 format, 24 µm pixel
➡️ BSI deep depletion NIR-enhanced QE
➡️ Ultra low latency 43 µs
